Superman Returns
To tell you the truth, I’m not old enough to have a chance to watch the previous episodes of Superman (Do you believe me, huh?? Haha..) Anyway, I think I know the plot and what I’ve seen from the movie trailer seem to be the same as what I expected.
Those superheroes movies like X-men and Spiderman might have probably been influenced by the early episodes of Superman. It seems like the themes and scenes of these movies are not much different. I think this episode of Superman is like a combination of Spiderman and X-men (Saving those who’re in trouble like Spiderman & Having Superhuman abilities like X-men)
Having focused to much on romantic relationship between Superman and Lois Laine, this movie becomes more like a drama movie than the action one. It gives me the reminiscence of Spiderman, especially the scene that Superman tried to recall his relationship with Lois Laine on the roof top of Global planet (Spiderman also has some kind of similar scene which the hero’s flirting with the main actress, remember??)
In fact, what I really expected this movie to have a lot of action scenes like in X-men since the director is the one who shoot X-men film. However, like I said before, the film seems to be less action but more romantic drama. It focused mainly on Superman, saving and flirting with the main actress, Lois Laine.
While I was watching the movie, I really thought that Superman’s soooooo cool that he’s the real superhero who can save this world from all the bad guys and dangers. I really mean it!!
Meanwhile, the all-time enemy of Superman, Lex Luther was not as bad as expected. Instead, he seemed to be a bit funny reminding me of Dr. Evil from Austin Power. Another scene that I think it should not be there was the scene that Superman was weakened by the deadly Crytonite and dragged by the bandits. With his Superman suit, it makes him a bit funny for me since it’s like a mimic comedian wearing Superhero suit but acting as a kid, who’s crying on the floor & trying to lure his parents to buy him whatever he wants.
Although it’s kind of big-hit box office movie, it did give me a reminiscene of Smallville (Well, actually it’s the same story). I think it’s not like Smallville used the plot of Superman, but the other way around!!
Anyway, those drawbaacks of this film suddenly became insignificant ones for me, having seen those special effects like the city and the space scenes, and the model of Superman which seemed to be a bit difficult to distinguish the real stuffs from thoe CGs. Despite having known the plot that seemed to be similar to other superheroes films, I still really enjoyed this film especially since it didn’t happily end like some other films. Yet, the director didn’t make Superman to be unreasonably strong and invincible, making it one of my most favorite movie.
